Five Years of Lactopia

This is a post about growth, change and gratitude.

In 2018 we enter our 5th year in business. My how this little company has grown. We see more clients each year than the one before. This year we have even had the honour of working with new siblings in families we’ve helped in the past. We are so grateful and honoured to be asked to walk alongside new families during their breastfeeding journey, so much more the second time.

looking ahead

We have travelled so far! In four years Lactopia has been to help families and teach classes all over Alberta (we even stuck our toes in Saskatchewan). From Calgary to Ft. McMurray, Hinton to Lloydminster we have criss-crossed this lovely prairie.

The number of families attending our prenatal breastfeeding classes has grown too, and we are able to offer more classes each year. We are so thankful to Grow Centre for providing such a lovely space for us to hold our classes, workshops and see our out of town clients.

Our work with professionals has increased too! Lee-Ann has spoken to the Doula Association of Edmonton, appeared on live television,  and spoken at functions for Modern Momma, and world breastfeeding week. We worked hard in 2017 to bring the first ever certified lactation counsellor training course to Alberta. This lovely group of newly certified CLCs has created a demand for more professional workshops, mentorship, and immersive learning opportunities.

As a result of the CLC training, our former service coordinator, Kelsey, has become a junior consultant and is now taking clients.

Looking to the year ahead, we are excited to be travelling to Vancouver for some more tongue and lip tie education. Kelsey is working on her path towards IBCLC certification. We joyfully adjust to the growing pains of moving our business from toddlerhood into it’s preschool stage. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done any of this without you, who gave us glowing referrals, and filled the seats in our workshops and classes. You who allowed us into your homes to learn and provide support as  you learned about your new babies. We are so thankful for our partners, and children who allow us to humbly do this amazing work. And to YOU, for helping us grow Lactopia!
